BETTER

Nós existimos para transformar a realidade de pessoas LGBTQIAP+ através de ações educativas e de empoderamento.

WHO ARE WE?

ARCO is a Civil Society Organization (CSO) located in the central region of Jaboatão dos Guararapes, Metropolitan Region of Recife, Pernambuco, Brasil. We structure ourselves through projects in different areas of action that take place on a seasonal basis and based on collective funding from civil society, in addition to articulations with public and private institutions. We work to promote and guarantee the human rights of the entire population, especially the LGBTQIAP+ community. Contributing in this way to the reduction of prejudice and discrimination, in addition carrying education and information about diversity to the population as a whole.

WHY DO WE EXIST?

According to the Report of the Observatory of Deaths and Violence against LGBTQIA+, Brazil is the country where most LGBTQIAP+ people are murdered in the world for the fourth consecutive year. Our state, Pernambuco, shows up on the list as one of the most violent for this population. The lack of specific Public Policies, as well as the political-conservative rigging of the political sphere brings on an even worse scenario. We have been here with the goal to promote and guarantee the human rights of LGBTQIAP+ people, while promoting educational and empowering social actions.

OUR MISSION

Promote and guarantee the human rights to LGBTQIAP+ people, also considering the intersectionalities of race, ethnicity, gender, generations, territory, social class, disabilities, sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions as social markers of difference.

OUR VISION

Become a reference on Civil Society Institution in the promotion and guarantee of human rights for LGBTQIAP+ people on the municipal, state and federal levels. Contributing to the reduction of prejudice and discrimination while make up opportunities for ascension and emancipation for LGBTQIAP+ people.
